We are delighted to introduce Ida Mutoigo who serves in a contracted role for providing COO services for Lift Up the Vulnerable (LUV). She is also the former President of Restore NYC. With a wealth of experience in combating human trafficking and supporting survivors, Ida brings a fresh perspective and a library of knowledge to our network.
Ida recently joined LUV where her work continues to focus on the critical areas of assisting trafficking survivors and implementing preventative measures. In these initial weeks, Ida immersed herself in LUV's operations, particularly concentrating on understanding the work happening across their three project sites spanning Sudan and South Sudan. Her primary goal is to leverage her leadership skills to support these vital indigenously-directed initiatives effectively.
As she settles into her new role, Ida is keen to tap into our community's collective wisdom. She's particularly interested in strategies for mentoring and strengthening the skills of local leaders. Like many in the nonprofit field, Ida is also grappling with the perennial challenge of resource allocation in the face of overwhelming need. She's eager to learn about potential foundations or funding sources that specifically focus on trafficking prevention in Sudan and South Sudan.
But Ida isn't just here to learn – she's also ready to share her extensive expertise. With a strong background in leadership training and mentoring, she's prepared to offer valuable resources and methodologies she's found effective over the years. Ida mentioned that “board development, especially using the policy governance model, has been a keen interest and expertise” for herself. Moreover, her experience living and working in diverse international settings positions her well to offer strategies for addressing challenges in cross-cultural contexts.
Looking to the future, Ida envisions significant growth for LUV. She sees the organization doubling its budget through increased support from foundations and individuals. More than that, she believes LUV's journey stands as a powerful testament to overcoming political conflicts and preventing child trafficking – a story she feels will inspire many.
Ida's track record speaks volumes about her capabilities. In her previous role of leadership for Restore NYC, they received the Presidential Award for Outstanding Achievements in Combating Human Trafficking. She has also been personally recognized with an Alumni of the Year award for her leadership at World Renew.
As a member of our community, Ida deeply values the role CALO plays in supporting non-profit leaders. She describes it as “a safe space for leaders to share confidential and challenging issues so that they can help each other give advice and potential solutions.” For Ida, CALO represents a supportive community that combats the isolation often experienced by those in top leadership positions.
Her wealth of experience, coupled with her passion for combating human trafficking, will undoubtedly enrich our community. We look forward to the valuable exchanges and collaborative efforts that lie ahead as we work together towards our shared goals in the non-profit sector.
